The School
"Education without travel is a classroom without a teacher." Sir William Hanks

Located along Albania's pristine Adriatic coast 100 miles from the border with Greece and 50 miles from Italy, Gables International provides a unique and enduring experience for students in grades 8 through 12 as part of a challenging American high school curriculum.

In partnership with UNESCO and the Albanian Archeological Institute, Gables students have the rare opportunity to unearth, to document, and to preserve for future generations archeological sites and artifacts dating back to 3000 BC. These untouched Illyrian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman sites extend the length and breadth of Albania, a country whose history predates the Pyramids of Egypt.

The International program of Gables Academy is committed to community involvement. By assisting in local and national health projects, improving elementary and secondary school facilities, and developing recreational sites for Albanian youth, Gables students play an important, dynamic role in Albanian community life. In addition to developing close personal relationships, these efforts enable each student to leave behind a living legacy to this rapidly emerging country and its people. In return, the community shares many traditional skills, the first being how to grow and care for crops and animals on which students depend for food and transport.

Because of its location on the Adriatic coast, the school boasts a well-supervised water sports program, including water-skiing and windsurfing. Gables International is staffed by fully qualified personnel from both the United States and Albania. To further the unique relationship Gables has forged with the people of Albania, the school hosts an active student and teacher exchange between both countries.
